Adding text search to your site using Google custom search engine

Wild Apricot does not currently have a built-in search engine for the website module, but you can embed a free search engine module using Google.

Here is how you can setup Google search engine in your own website:
1. Go to http://www.Google.com/coop/cse/
(You need to have a Google account to do this. Create one if you do not have it yet)
Click on [Create custom search engine]

2. Sign in to Google custom search with your Google account

3. Specify custom search engine parameters: name, description. The most important parameter is selecting which websites are to be searched.
Specifying john-doe.camp8.org/* will include all the pages on john-doe.camp8.org. Write your own Wild Apricot website URL instead of john-doe.camp8.org (without http://).
Agree with the terms of usage and click [Next] button.

4. Your custom search engine is ready, click on [Finish] button.

5. Now go to "Homepage" link in your custom search engine control panel.

6. Follow the link "Add this search engine to your Blog or webpage"

7. Specify custom search engine widget parameters - size, color and click [Get code] button. Copy generated Javascript code.

8. Log in to your Wild Apricot site as an administrator. Edit the page where you want to place your search engine.
Paste Javascript code using snippet tool <S>.

9. Log out from wild apricot and open the page with search engine widget. Enter search words and click [Search] button.

Search results will be displayed on a new Google page.

Google search widget can not currently be inserted into your Wild Apricot page header or footer, only into a specific page. (Google Javascript conflicts with our webpage editor code). We are working to address this.
We are also considering integrating our own search engine into Wild Apricot accounts.
